The Cognitive Bridge: Strengthening your EMDR Practice through CBT Insights

This advanced course explores how to harness the skills and concepts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to enhance EMDR practice.  Discusses Cognitive Behavioral theory as a way to bring new insights to the AIP model.  Implements effective CBT techniques into each of the eight phases.

This training helps EMDR practitioners improve their practice by translating the language and techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT is frequently taught in graduate schools, internships, and clinical settings, meaning that many clinicians have at least a passing familiarity with this model. Reviewing overlaps and differences between the models helps bridge providers from practicing good CBT to good EMDR Therapy. By the end of this training, attendees will be able to leverage their knowledge of cognitive behavioral theory to enhance their skills in the AIP model. Participants will be able to describe how CBT as an approach fits alongside EMDR Therapy.  Finally, practitioners will enhance their EMDR mastery by utilizing and translating CBT skills and concepts.

Past Live Trainings

This workshop explores the complex and interconnected physical, mental, and substance use health challenges facing rural communities, with a focus on why integrated care is essential in settings with limited access and resources. Participants will gain an overview of rural health disparities, key social and structural determinants of health, and the unique cultural contexts that shape care delivery, including considerations for individuals with disabilities and the impact of stigma. The presentation highlights how co-occurring conditions are best addressed through whole-person, coordinated approaches and outlines practical, actionable strategies such as telehealth, workforce cross-training, community partnerships, and universal screening. Real-world case examples and best practices will demonstrate how rural communities can strengthen care coordination, improve outcomes, and build sustainable, integrated health systems.

Additional public workshops and advanced trainings are currently in development. Topics will include specialized discussions on EMDR, CBT, journaling, and structured approaches to trauma treatment.

If you think of any topics you’d like me to present on, or if you’d like to reach out to me about possible partnerships, please reach out to me by email. You’ll find my contact information at the bottom of the page.

Training Philosophy

I believe all good trainings tell a story. My aim is to build engaging training material that helps you recognize particular problems and build the skills to solve them.

I prioritize structured and practical learning. Theory remains important– we must understand the what and why before we can get to the how. Once the theory is clearly and concisely established, I move to talking more about application. I often include case examples to illustrate certain concepts. My greatest hope is that these trainings spark your imagination on how you can best help the clients you serve.

I also offer consultation! And if you’d like to know more about me and my background, click here.
